In other words, odds and ends, snort.
- first, my apologies for not keeping up with commenting on my favourite blogs (you know who you are and I'll catch up soon), and for doing the very thing I was bemoaning not so long ago -- letting a blog become inactive without warning!
- specifically, I feel bad about not posting my Easy Vegg-Scrambled Tofu and Two Lazy Ways to Eat More Kale recipes for September's VeganMoFo, but hopefully I'll find time to squeeze them in before things get even more hectic
- hectic meaning that my 86-year old mom is having surgery soon and is not supposed to do anything for about 6 weeks, which means I may be doing a bit of everything for a while, so this blog will likely get short shrift once again
- it's Thanksgiving (or Thanksliving, Thankstaking, Thanksdying depending on your frame of mind and reference) today in Canada, which as you know, may be a holiday for humans, but is a helliday for turkeys
- but in the spirit of the day, I AM grateful for many things: sunshine, my Kazumi Joy who doesn't hold grudges no matter how lousy my guardianship sometimes is, readers who put up with my ramblings, amazing animal advocacy books, movies and movements, and the conviction that while the world may not be vegan yet, my own personal world will be vegan forever
- one of the books I'm currently reading that I think will be useful in burnout prevention and thus helpful in the vegan forever quest is Trauma Stewardship: An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others
- I no longer link to books on Amazon dot com in protest of their continuing foie gras sales (thankfully Amazon.ca doesn't participate), and I made sure to inform them why I cancelled my Associate membership
- the Canadian television show W5 who aired a highly-watched factory farming expose is going to prove themselves once again and this time will highlight the plight of chickens on their October 19 show
- hopefully the Egg Farmers of Canada will be viewing it as well as they are running the most asinine commercial ever in which they extol the virtues of eggs and egg farmers without a single mention or image even of chickens -- and yes, you can bet that yours truly filled out their contact form to let them know exactly what I thought of this
- finally, I earned my 5-year vegan pin this past summer! Yep, five years. Now in terms of being vegan, five years is a blip in that I'm aiming to become at least 100, but a blog for 5 years? That's quite remarkable given my practically phobic reaction to ANY other type of commitment (I'm talking work, housing and relationships here), so for better or for worse, you're stuck with us for quite some time
- and, um, some veganpreneur should start making those pins already! :)
If you enjoyed this post, please share. And until next time, Keep Calm and Vegan On.
